Little Dieter Needs to Fly

(1979) "It all looked strange, like a barbaric dream." His village destroyed by American planes in WWII, Dieter Dengler flew through Vietnam; shot down, he endured a gruelling trek from captivity - which he re-enacts for Herzog. "Inspiring, charming, sad and all but tragic, in a Greek-literary sense - and a character who might have sprung from the brow of Herzog, if not Zeus." - John Anderson, Newsday.
